Story Behind: Raphaël Vicenzi

Posted on

When did you learn your love in drawing/illustrating and how?
I am completely self-taught. I started to learn Photoshop around 15 years ago because I thought it would be a good idea. I am really passionate about art, illustration, fashion illustrations & street art, they've been the source of my inspiration ever since.
It was a long and difficult process but I am happy about what I have achieved so far.

Did you always know you wanted to work in the creative industry?
I always wanted to work in a creative field but I did not know how to go about it.
That's mainly why I started to learn about photoshop and started creating illustrations because I just needed a computer and ideas, two things that were easily available for me at that time.
I suppose I would need many lives to be able to learn the skills & create everything that goes through my mind.

Do you have any cool project coming out soon?
For the moment I am working on collages because it's another technique I really enjoy working with. I have so many ideas and projects I would like to start but time is always a thorn in my side. I'd like to make more exhibitions, more collage works, a new art blog, music, patterns and on and on...

Do you listen to music while you work? If so, what are your most played songs?

Not always, sometimes I do enjoy working in silence. I listen to a lot of different kind of music, from classical, techno, hardcore, metal, jazz, post-rock, punk...mostly all different kind of alternative music. Recently I've been listening a lot to A Pregnant Light 'Circle of crying women' and The Drums 'Magic mountain' but it changes everyday depending on my mood.

What is the one thing you can't live without?
One thing ? that's not enough !! I need plenty of things to make my life worthwhile.

Apart from drawing, what else do you like to do?
Reading interesting books, watching movies, listening to music, playing with my daughter and spending time with my wife. Truth be told, Illustration takes a good chunk of my time & even when I am not working my mind is working in the background to distill ideas, colours & shapes.
