Quick Chat with Alivia Pattas
Miss Runner: Describe a normal day for yourself.
Alivia Pattas: 'Normal' doesn't really exist in my vocabulary. I've always done things a bit differently than my peers and I wouldn't have it any other way! Since I work for myself every day can look completely different than the one before. The key to keeping some balance and routine in my life is eating healthy meals and trying to always incorporate some physical activity into my day since it's easy to rack up time sitting in front of a computer.
MR: What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
AP: As someone who maintains a pretty busy calendar, I definitely appreciate having time to relax when I first wake up and again right before bed. Laying in bed for five minutes and just taking time to slowly ease into the morning instead of quickly rushing to get dressed and out the door can make a huge difference in how my day will go. In a world where we praise working late and doing more it feels good to set aside time to appreciate the calm and quiet moments in life.
MR: What is your most unforgettable moment of your journey as a photographer?
AP: Although I've enjoyed photography as a hobby for over 10 years, it's only within the past couple of years that I've finally began to pursue it as a passion and career. Since I still consider myself new to the field I like to think the best is yet to come. That being said, getting paid to fly around in a helicopter and take photos of an active volcano and several waterfalls on the Big Island of Hawaii is certainly high on the list so far. :-)
MR: Do you have any other hobbies outside of work?
AP: Lucky for me as a marketer and photographer a lot of my personal interests connect back to my work. Outside of my zest for what I do, I've always been musically and artistically inclined. I find it really fun and relaxing to play guitar or spend a couple hours drawing and painting.
MR: Which artistic figure has the greatest influence on you as an artist?
AP: Between growing up in Hawaii and living in Vancouver, Canada for the past 7 years -- I've already been very lucky to call two of the world's most beautiful destinations my home. Moving to Australia has been a big decision to make but after a recent visit I couldn't have felt more confident about making the trek. It's a stunningly diverse country that offers a wonderful balance of modern opportunities as well as an abundance of untouched nature. Having grown up in a small town myself, I'm looking forward to trading my bustling city life in for a slower pace in the countryside.
MR: Last but not least, can you comment on the idea of this collaboration, how is the experience different from those projects you have worked on before?
AP: Working with Tania, the founder and designer of Miss Runner, on this line has been nothing short of amazing. I was attracted to the brand early on because I saw some of the work she had done with other creatives and was really impressed by the spirit of collaboration and quality of design. This is my first time working on the production side of a fashion brand and couldn't be happier with the results. Most photographers would say it's something special to see your images come to life in a print, but to see your work on beautifully-crafted clothing -- that's been wayyy more thrilling!
